La 'preposición' es la clase de palabra invariable que introduce el llamado
sintagma preposicional. Constituye un tipo de nexo en tanto que liga. Podemos
definir la preposición como una palabra que tiene la función de relacionar
palabras o grupos de palabras subordinando, al menos en español, la que viene
después de la preposición a la que viene antes con una noción de significado
sumamente abstracto y callampesco. Parte invariable de la oración que une
palabras denotando la relación que tienen entre sí.
